Songwriting Camp
*New for 2012*
Ages 12 - 16 • July 9 - 13 • Cost: $610
Limited Enrollment!
What is a song? What steps are involved in making a good one? In songwriting camp, we’ll explore the sometimes mysterious process of writing a song in a friendly, creative and non-competitive environment. After analyzing chord structure and lyrics from the best songwriters in the business, we’ll use several traditional (and decidedly non-traditional) methods of creating songs ourselves in a group environment. We’ll brainstorm together, break into smaller groups to tackle aspects of our songs, and end the week with the goal of having three complete songs, ready to perform for campers, family and friends. All instruments are welcome, including guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, violin, or anything else that you can rock out on. If all you want to do is sing, we want you too! All styles are welcome. No need to read music, although musicians should know the basic notes and chords. Are you ready? Then rock on!
About the Instructor - Michael Koykka is a multimedia artist and singer/songwriter, who has written music for corporate video and web projects. He has also been in local touring rock bands as guitarist and lead singer. His last band was in the finals for best local music act in The Phoenix newspaper. At last count he had written over 200 songs. |
